Spinach and Sausage Baked Ziti
At our house, we love one dish meals. They can be prepared ahead of time and cooked when it is time for dinner. This casserole was inspired by using sausage and spinach that needed to be used. This recipe became a family favorite.
Ingredients
3/4 pound ziti
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 small sweet onion, chopped
1 pound ground Italian sausage
28 ounces tomato sauce
6 ounces baby spinach
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon granulated garlic
3/4 tablespoon Italian seasoning
1 cup half and half
1/2 cup grated parmesan cheese
1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
Directions
Cook ziti according to package directions. Drain, rinse with cold water, and set aside.
In a 5 quart sauce pan, heat oil over medium heat. Add onions and sausage to pan. Cook for 10 minutes, breaking up the sausage until it is browned and crumbled..
Add tomato sauce, spinach, salt, garlic, and Italian seasoning to pan. Mix well. Reduce heat to medium low and cook for 10 minutes.
Add half and half to pan. Mix well, Cook for 5 minutes
Add pasta to sauce pan. Mix until pasta is completely coated with sauce. Add parmesan cheese to pan. Mix well.
Place pasta mixture in a 13 x 9 baking dish. Top with mozzarella cbeese. Bake at 350 for 30 minutes.
