Braised Short Ribs
The last time we cruised, my husband's favorite dish was braised short ribs. I had made them once a long time ago, but that recipe was gone. I wanted to make short ribs for him at home so I did some research and created my own recipe. The first time I tried to make the short ribs, they weren't that good. I cooked them longer the second time they were so much better.
Ingredients
2 teaspoons seasoned salt
1 teaspoon pepper
2 teaspoons granulated garlic
4 pounds short ribs
2 tablespoons olive oil
1 sweet onion, chopped
3 cups beef broth3/4 cup merlot1 1/2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce6 ounces tomato paste
Directions
In a small bowl, mix salt, pepper, and garlic. Sprinkle seasoning mixture on short ribs.
In a large saute pan, heat oil over medium high heat. Add onion and cook for 3 - 4 minutes. Place short ribs in pan and brown on all sides. Reduce heat to medium and add beef broth, merlot, and Worcestershire sauce. Mix well and cook for 10 minutes.
Reduce heat to medium low and cook, covered, for 5-6 hours. The meat will be falling off the bones. Increase heat to medium. Cook, uncovered, for 30 - 45 minutes, or until sauce is reduced and thickened. Shred meat before serving.
