Onion Dip
I love onions and cook with them all of the time. Everyone loves onion dip. The onion soup packets make a great dip but I wanted something a little fresher and less salty. I made it for the kids and grandkids and they loved it. The sweetness of the vidalia onions add a real nice extra layer of flavor.
Ingredients
2 tablespoons butter
1 tablespoon olive oil
2 vidalia onions, chopped small
2 shallots, chopped small16 ounces sour cream
1/2 cup mayonnaise
1 teaspoon seasoned salt
1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper1/2 teaspoon granulated garlic
Directions
In a large saute pan, over medium heat, heat butter and olive oil. Add onions and shallots to pan. Cook for 10 minutes, stirring frequently. Reduce heat to medium low. Cook for 30 minutes, or until onions and shallots are caramelized, stirring frequently. Remove from heat and set aside to cool.
In a large bowl, add sour cream, mayonnaise, salt, pepper, and garlic. Mix well. Add onions. Mix well.
Refrigerate for at least 2 hours before serving.
